Dr. William Spears, MD, MS, is a board-certified neurologist and neurocritical care specialist based in Boston, Massachusetts. With a diverse background in medicine, research, and academia, Dr. Spears is dedicated to providing expert care to patients with neurological conditions and advancing the field of neurology through his clinical practice, research, and teaching.

Dr. Spears completed his undergraduate studies in Finance at the University of South Carolina before pursuing his passion for medicine. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and went on to complete his Neurology Residency and Internal Medicine Internship at Boston University Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. During his time at Boston University, he also obtained a Master’s of Science (MS) degree in Cellular Biology from the University of Georgia, where he conducted research on cell death modulation by Hirano bodies in the context of tau and the amyloid precursor protein intracellular domain.

Dr. Spears has a special interest in neurocritical care and completed a prestigious Neurocritical Care Fellowship at Boston University Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and holds a full medical license in Massachusetts. He is also a member of various professional societies, including the American Academy of Neurology, Neurocritical Care Society, Massachusetts Neurological Association, Boston Society of Neurology and Psychiatry, Massachusetts Medical Society, and American Medical Association.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Spears has a strong research background with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national conferences. He has received several awards for his research excellence, including the Kase Symposium Excellence in Research Award and a resident scholarship to the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Spears is also actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Spears is known for his compassionate and patient-centered approach to care, using a multidisciplinary approach to diagnose and manage complex neurological conditions. He is dedicated to staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in neurology and providing the highest quality of care to his patients. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Spears enjoys spending time with his family, staying physically active, and contributing to the medical community through his research and teaching endeavors
